Beautiful imagery from the Roberto Cavalli Fall/Winter 2010-11 Women's Collection catwalk

Porro recently took center stage at the Roberto Cavalli Fall/Winter 2010-11 women's collection runway show.  Cavalli, who is always pushing the boundaries of fashion, opted to use a custom Lampada chandelier designed by Angelo Mangiarotti and the Ferro table designed by Piero Lissoni -both produced by Porro- for his runway design.

The Achille Castiglioni effect

designboom has published a sneak preview of the ‘Castiglioni Effect,’ which is the title of the show that De Padova is currently preparing for design week next month. This exhibit is particularly special because the bulk of the models and drawings have never been seen before.

The New York Times - Retro Modern

The New York Times Style Magazine just published a photo essay and article about designer Marc Newson and stylist Charlotte Stockdale's home in London.

The couple had been living in a house in Pimlico, but after the birth of their daughter they decided they needed more room for their growing family. The result is a style mash-up of Newson's sleek and streamline aesthetic with Stockdale's sensibility.

Zanotta and Cristalplant to host international design competition

Exciting news!

For the first time ever, Zanotta is teaming up with Cristalplant to host a design competition.

Entitled Design Contest 2010, the aim of the contest is to seek out young talent. Each entry has to use Cristalplant as the sole material for their design.

The contest is a result of the 2009 additions to the Zanotta collection that used Cristalplant as the material. The Elica table designed by Prospero Rasulo (shown above) and the outdoor coffee table Loto and Ninfea designed by Ludovica and Roberto Palomba.
A jury of qualified experts will pick the winners for each category, and selected prototypes will be presented at the International Furniture Fair 2010.

What makes Cristalplant special?  It's a unique and technologically advanced composite material, constituted by a high percentage of natural minerals and a small percentage of extremely pure polyester and acrylic polymers; which makes it an inert and non-toxic material. It’s 100% recyclable, considered fireproof, and has a high UV resistance. It’s compact and non-porous and has a velvety finish, similar to natural stone. It’s also 100% restorable, which means that it can be brought back to its original state with a simple detergent and an abrasive sponge.

The New York Times - Backdrops for a Dramatic Life

The New York Times Home and Garden section just published a photo essay and article about performance artist Marina Abramovic’s SoHo loft. The 2,500 square-foot loft’s white walls and pale floors set the stage for an impressive collection of contemporary furnishings, including several pieces designed by Patricia Urquiola, Ms. Abramovic’s favorite designer.

Private Villa in Palazzolo sull’Oglio Brescia

Studio Effe Mauro Ferrari recently completed the renovation of an early 20th-century town home in Palazzolo sull’Oglio.

The finished product is an excellent example of the elegance, functionality, and adaptability of Porro, Living Divani, and Boffi, which are each represented in the home.
