New Products Presented by Porro

Among the most looked-for furnishing brands on the market, Porro stands out for its essential and immediately identified language, with simple signs, geometries, shapes, without forgetting in case of highly complex production processing too, its unique company philosophy: simplicity.

All Porro products are the result of a subtraction, form a progressive simplification process. Systems which are complex too, are the result of a very simple aesthetic vision, based on consistency, simplification, simplicity, without forgetting quality, the best possible quality at all.

In the recent years, Porro has collaborated with International designers such as Jean Marie Massaud, Christophe Pillet and the Swedish group, Front.

This year at the Salone del Mobile Porro introduced a few new pieces but also reinvented some of their already established pieces from their furniture collection.

The new Chameleon unit, designed by Front, is a magic volume, opening on itself as a Chinese box game, changing appearance and revealing new finishes. To be used as a bedroom unit or to furnish the living room, it consists of a pear-wood crate, a soft wood in a delicate rose color, customized with drawers and shelves and covered with precious leathers, used as a hinge, allow to turn it and changed into a luggage or a bag, to change its color and look - from white to black - according to your mood.

Piero Lissoni designed a new accessory for the Porro Collection: the Tiller sideboard, available in two models, vertically developed on 1.6 meters wide and horizontally developed on 2.2 meters wide, shows 4 doors can be opened one on the other pleasantly changing the front design appearance. Raised on 4 matte black metal feet from the floor, Tiller proves once more the technical expertise of a brand able to test year after year new opening mechanisms and technologies. Structure in Eucalypt wood, inner drawers on demand.

The new design to enter into the Porro table collection is the new extension table, Taac, by the young Italian designer Michele Cazzaniga, whose top can extend form a minimum of 190cm to 300cm wide, and is 95cm deep. A project simply translating the practical requirement of the new shapes, materials and technical solutions: in Eucalypt, a dark wood, extremely consistent and richly shaded, barely displaying the internal black aluminum frame.

Stolen form a fairy tale, directly coming from a children's book, the result of any dream coming true, the Gentle chair entirely reinterprets the seat archetype, making its shapes far more modern and purified. If at a first glance it looks like a continuum, a pattern drawing drafted without moving the pencil from the paper, in reality it perfectly hides a complex project, matching metal covered by soft leather at the back legs level, moving up to the back arch, to the light wood of the front legs, becoming the arm and back supports, in a subtle opposite contrast. The soft back and the leather upholstered seat make the chair "soft" at the touch and at sight, in a harmonic double-colored optical effect, graphical and retro at the same time, always two colors perfectly and elegantly matched.

The Jade designed by Christophe Pillet was reintroduced this year in a new finish, canaletto walnut.  Its harmonious lines and relaxed posture distinguish the Jade lounge armchair: presented by Porro in leather or eco-leather it appears to be suspended on the structure with cross base, supported at four points.

A new round version for the Synapsis table, designed by Jean Marie Massaud, was added this year to compliment the original design of the oval table with cut ends version. The innovation of this item is represented by the bearing element: a plated, white or black steel wire grille that has been emptied and transformed in a web of welded pipes. The base looks very light when coupled with the light top. The oval version is available in Pral, in all the lacquered colors of the sample collection, white or black high resistant matte lacquered, in black stained hemlock or in "carbone" oak. The round version is available in Pral or in all the lacquered colors of the sample collection.

Gearing up for the Salone del Mobile: Porro

We are looking forward to the new products from Porro designed by Piero Lissoni, Front, and Christophe Pillet debuting at the Milan Furniture Fair this week.

The first piece of the 2011 collection to be presented is Sundial, a wall clock that stands out for its circular form and glowing albescence. A metal disk 21-1/2" in diameter presents the twelve hours applied perpendicularly to the plane of the disk so that they can only be read via the shadows they cast on the white surface. An innovative concept: when viewed from the front it is transformed into a composition of parallel lines, while from the side it becomes a captivating superimposition of numbers.

Another project preparing for its debut is the Showcase Table: a coffee table / bedside table with graceful lines and a double top acting as a glass showcase for the objects that populate one’s daily life—books, eyeglasses, fruit—putting them on elegant display and elevating them to the status of art. Available in 2 formats, square or rectangular, it’s made up of an upper glass top and an inferior pullout surface in white lacquer, as its bearing structure, a real secret drawer hidden behind its apparent simplicity.

Piero Lissoni has conceived compositions whose volumes are cadenced by color, dimensional interplays, juxtapositions of materials, alternation of space and solids to make contemporary living spaces richer and more delightful.

For 2011, Modern plunges into the color, to show all the expressive possibilities of Porro new palette, debuting at Salone. It will be completely revised by increasing the number of colors from 18 to 24 and introducing 16 new vibrant nuances, from the warm and cold greys, to a series of soft tones, up to the brightest hues of fuchsia, yellow, blue, acid green, enhancing with pigments the purified geometries of the company’s proposals.

Following the success of H.chair, Soft Chair armchair, Nouvelle Vague chaise lounge, Nancy writing desk and Jade lounge chair with Shahan small table, mixing clean geometries with a typical discreet French elegance, Christophe Pillet is widening Porro's catalog with a passe-partout piece for both domestic and working ambiances.

The P-frame bookcase, a piece for the center of the room, perfect for dividing the dining room from the living room or the work spaces from the reception areas. The innovative structural system comprises a double frame, front and back, that ensures rigidity and light weight, and eliminates the need for a back. High thickness 1-1/2" suspended shelves thus trace out its design, which may be enriched with an optional sliding door, a mobile screen that introduces a pleasant dynamism into its setting.

Porro Designs Showcased at the Restaurant at the Teatro Sociale in Como

18.13 La Cucina Del Teatro, the new restaurant at the Teatro Sociale in Como, showcases Porro designs.  Porro is the Italian furniture design brand founded in Brianza.  Recognized all over the world for its immediately identifiable style and the high quality of its designs.

Pure volumes, pale colors with touches of red and the minimal design of Porro have been chosen for 18.13 La Cucina Del Teatro.  The restaurant is connected to the theatre via a bright red corridor which leads to the counter of the bar, and opens into an attractive star motif.  18.13 La Cucina Del Teatro is distinguished by a pleasant double-height dining area entirely furnished with the latest designs by Porro.

Fractal square tables with white painted aluminum structure and matte moon white lacquered high resistance top and Neve white natural stained ash chairs with a minimalist purity have been chosen for the space on the ground floor. The ground floor courtyard allows for outdoor dining during the milder months. Dining on the upper floor benefits from the warmth of natural woods and suffused lighting.

For larger groups, an initial environment is devised. The space is furnished with the Synapsis table with white structure and moon white glossy lacquered top and Neve armchairs, chosen here in the black stained ash finish.  Among the new creations by Piero Lissoni, Neve reinterprets the classic wooden chair in a contemporary style.  While the supporting structure is characterized by a layout of clear lines of various thicknesses, slightly inclined, giving it a pleasantly aerodynamic quality. The roundness of the spindle legs, the slight curve of the back, and the suspended seat soften its figure.  The scene is lit by two pendant Shadow Light lamps by Swedish designers, Front.  When turned off they have a tidy and minimal design, in tune with the furnishing brand that has made elegant formal simplicity its calling card.  However, thanks to their special "double skin" lampshade, and external white diffuser that conceals a chrome semi-dome inside studded with holes of various diameters, for a system of shadows and multiple reflections. Once turned on the pendants are covered in dots, projecting a fun and charming dotted motif throughout the room, a cascade of little bubbles to make the air more sparkling.

Another common area then proceeds into the two environments with vaulted ceilings overhanging the space below.  Here white Fractal square tables are accompanied by Neve black stained ash chairs. On the walls, the Endless Shelf bookcase in the 'carbone' oak finish with black aluminum joints and low feet. With its fun square shape designed by Werner Aisslinger, it satisfies the storage needs of the dining room.
